Ontario Works

Ontario Works helps people who are in financial need. It offers two types of assistance:

Rent Support

The province has suspended evictions (approving new ones or enforcing evictions) in the current health emergency.

In some communities, you may be able to get a low-cost loan to help cover your rent:

Emergency Support

The Emergency Support Benefit will provide up to $5.0 billion in support to workers who are not eligible for EI and who are facing unemployment.

Emergency Care Benefit

The Emergency Care Benefit will provide up to $900 bi-weekly, for up to 15 weeks. This flat-payment Benefit would provide income support to:

Parents with children who require care or supervision due to school closures, and are unable to earn employment income, irrespective of whether they qualify for EI or not.

Application for the Benefit will be available in April 2020, and require Canadians to attest that they meet the eligibility requirements. They will need to re-attest every two weeks to reconfirm their eligibility. Canadians will select one of three channels to apply for the Benefit:

1. by accessing it on their CRA My Account secure portal;

2. by accessing it from their secure My Service Canada Account; or

3. by calling a toll free number equipped with an automated application process.

Goods and Services Tax credit (GSTC) payment amounts

The Government is proposing to provide a one-time special payment by early May 2020 through the GSTC. This will double the maximum annual GSTC payment amounts for the 2019-20 benefit year.

The average boost to income for those benefitting from this measure will be close to $400 for single individuals and close to $600 for couples. This measure will inject $5.5 billion into the economy.

Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment amounts

The Government is proposing to increase the maximum annual CCB payment amounts, only for the 2019-20 benefit year, by $300 per child.

The overall increase for families receiving CCB will be approximately $550 on average; these families will receive an extra $300 per child as part of their May payment. In total, this measure will deliver almost $2 billion in extra support.

Corporate Tax Payments

The Canada Revenue Agency will allow all businesses to defer, until after August 31, 2020, the payment of any income tax amounts that become owing on or after today and before September 2020. This relief would apply to tax balances due, as well as installments, under Part I of the Income Tax Act. No interest or penalties will accumulate on these amounts during this period.

Rent Support

The provincial government has put a moratorium on evictions for renters in apartments run by B.C. Housing and says they are working to make this happen for renters in affordable and subsidized housing.

Annual rent increases has been temporarily frozen.

The BC Emergency Benefit for Workers will pay a one-time $1,000 payment in May for people in BC getting EI or the CERB. Applications will open soon.

Covid-19 Update - Monthly Rent

How will Covid-19 Impact Your Monthly Rent and Utilities?

It is with a heavy heart, yet one filled with tremendous hope, that we send you this email. Domingo Property Management (DPM) wants you and your family to stay safe and healthy during this time. This truly is an unprecedented time that no one could be fully prepared for. This is a time that community and solidarity mean more than ever on a local to global scale. This also means that those exact necessary pursuits must occur because we are all being affected by COVID-19. We are all seeing how no one is immune to this pandemic’s effects from a physical health standpoint, to one of fiduciary and other resources.

Domingo Property Management is monitoring the relief efforts at the federal, provincial, and local jurisdiction levels. We are also diligently following any guidance and recommendations from reputable health agencies/sources, and government bodies. DPM and its team are also keeping in contact with your landlords, and listening to their concerns and personal situations amidst the COVID-19 effects.

At this point in time and after speaking with the provincial landlord and tenant boards, there has been no changes to legislation surrounding rent payments and utility payments. Details surrounding supports for all Canadian’s is in constant motion and we are staying on top of the changes as best we can. DPM is very open to communication and collaboration to help us all get through this with minimal affliction.

We wanted to give you ample notice to reach out and to prepare as monthly rental invoices will have to continue to be sent out. Tenants will be asked to submit their rent payments as they would normally do until advised otherwise by DPM. We do empathize greatly with your situation as previously stated, we are all being affected by COVID-19.

We do want to strongly encourage you to speak with your landlords if you feel concerned about your financial situation. Everybody's situation will be handled on a case-by-case basis between you and your landlord. As the situation unfolds, we will be notifying you of any changes that may impact your rent and utility payment situation. Important Details About Maintenance and Repairs

There is no greater time of uncertainty than we are in the present in the wake of Covid-19. At Domingo Property Management we want to ensure the health and well-being is considered to be the highest priority for every tenant we provide services to on behalf of their landlords, the contractors we work with, and our customers the landlords during this time.

In order to combat the spread of Covid-19, Domingo Property Management will be monitoring the situation and following any recommendations from the Toronto Public Health and Health Canada as the situation unfolds. We will be in regular contact with your landlords to ensure the best quality of service is realistically achieved as the situation changes. We will also be working closely with the necessary contractors to prioritise and schedule any repair work that arises.

How will this be accomplished?

We encourage you to speak with your Landlords directly if you have any specific concerns.
All regularly scheduled maintenance work and inspections will be deferred for 1 month and reviewed in 1 month intervals (i.e. Fire Safety Testing, furnance maintenance, etc) until the outbreak is contained.
Repairs/maintenance to non-essential services (Heating, water, and electricity) will not be treated as priority as any service will be deferred as much as possible until the outbreak is contained.
Essential services repair work will be prioritised and assessed on a case-by-case basis.
We will keep in contact with your landlords and from time to time may communicate out general information, on their behalf, through this website in order to keep you informed.
